Mission & Purpose

Performing Arts and Humanities Building at duskThe Office of Program Innovation and Partnerships (OPIP) works together with university partners to strategically identify, develop, and execute new programs and ideas. OPIP explores new angles for UMBC to be more nimble and responsive to academic and market demands. OPIP helps partners identify strategic opportunities that will help drive innovation on campus.

 

Market Research

Collaborate with us to evaluate opportunities for new programs or for program modifications.

  • Monitor market trends and mine data for new opportunities.
  • Use available tools (EAB, Labor Insight, UPCEA) to make strategic recommendations based on market data
  • Conduct focus groups to gather market information
  • Create and send out surveys to gather market information
  • Create market research studies to evaluate new programs or program modifications

Program Development & Innovation

Reach together with academic departments, centers, and offices on the design and launch of new programs and modifications to existing programs.

  • Consult with faculty members or staff throughout the entire new program development process.
  • Create a project plan to guide the program from the initial concept through the program launch.
  • Help to navigate the program approval governance process.
  • Create a new program budget. More accurately project new program costs and strategize on how a new program will impact an academic department.
  • Provide guidance in writing concept papers and new program proposals using the templates provided by UMBC, the Universities at Shady Grove, and the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC).

Extended Learning

Connect learners of all ages and backgrounds to the UMBC campus through non-credit programs

Partnerships

Work collaboratively with corporations, government, educational institutions, and organizations to develop and implement new partnerships.

  • Build relationships with external organizations, including organizing focus groups, employer interviews, and recruiting for program advisory boards.
